This week's GAYLEs are some flowers that I found in my attic. Look here for their meanings in the language of flowers.
There was no award appropriate for Lionel's surprise appearance this week, but I hope you'll forgive me for handing him a garland of Monkshood, Yellow Poppies, and Hydrangea just to honor his Magnificent Bastard status.
Gayle -- In a stunning upset, Omar awards it to Bo Kent for his long, loving look at his son. Bo's simple bouquet of Flax and Stock will cover this and The Platypus that he's sure to get below. Lex should always be mentioned in this category, so we'll add his kicked puppy look at the end of Lex and Clark's first scene by the fence. You know, the one where Lex is helping Clark with his wood? We in the GAYLE thread pretty much unanimously awarded The GAYLE to Clark's flirtatious under his lashes look at a blushing Lex in the hospital scene. But Omar is the Boss of us all. {Waving my sparkly sign}
GAL -- Most votes were to Clark's "Hit me, anywhere." Honorable mentions include Lex's "We're friends, right Clark." Hoo yes. And Clark's "Are you going to stop snooping behind my back." Mostly because people keep suggesting what Lex could do back there instead.
HoNay! -- Chloe's 5000 megawatt smile at Eric earn her some Yellow Tulips combined with Morning Glory.
PHOC -- Lex helped Clark with his wood. I can't believe I just wrote that sentence. For their team work Lex presents Clark with a complicated arrangement of Blue, Pink, and White Camellias filled out with Maidenhair Fern and Gloxinia. Many wanted to give the PHOC to Eric pulling the electrical wire, but they'll just have to settle for the BLASST.
BLOW -- Awarded by Omar in the recap to, "You call sleeping with me business? I'd hate to think what that makes you." I'm giving Lex a whole bouquet of red roses for that spectacular kiss off of Miss Hard Wick, which, come to think of it, looked more comfortable than the kiss of Miss Hard Wick.
The HUG -- Whitney gets a lovely pot of petunias for helping Clark off the floor in the basketball game. Some real chemistry there.
SWOLI -- "We'll love you even if you can't bench press the tractor." Martha please collect your posy of Day Lilies and Myrtle. Honorable mention and a geranium to the doctor for "Whatever doesn't kill you just makes you stronger." I'd have put this in the Platypus honorable mentions, but Bo Kent had so many the poor doctor was crowded out.
The Juvie -- Goes to Lana, for "I have to let go of the past." Word, baby, Word. Your award is a vase filled with Candytuft, Windflower, and Japanese Rose (which according to my housemate Lucy means, "Your beauty is your only virtue.")
The Platypus -- Bo Kent. I may just rename this category the Bo Kent and have done with it. Whether opining that "Lightning doesn't strike twice in the same place," which is demonstrably inaccurate by the way, or saying "Your powers don't define you, Clark," over and over again, this category is a lock by the blond duke.
Occasionals:
The Acting!Lana -- Hell NO. Sorry, I'm better now.
The Yea! I finally have something to Do! -- Pete got to fight a mugger, play basketball, walk around shirtless in the locker room, and generally just be there like Clark and Chloe's friend. He completely deserves his nosegay of Sweet William and Mimosa.
The Diddler -- Awarded to Eric for gratuitous destruction of yet another truck (yeah, probably Whitney's) in order to impress a girl. His room at the hospital will have a couple of potted Oleanders and Begonias.
The LEXUS -- Also goes to Eric for his modern art installation, Car in Roof. Although Clark using his powers to find a quartz sample gets a groan and an honorable mention.
The DICK -- A bouquet of Daisies to Basketball!Clark
The DRILL -- Although several people nominated the moment when Lex whispers in Victoria's ear, "Was it worth it?" It didn't have enough nominations to win the award. However, I'm going to viciously miswield my miniscule bit of power here and give that moment the award anyway. It was the voice that caused me to melt. And in honor of that Clark hands Lex a bouquet of White Violets, Moss Roses, and Red Poppies.
The PSHAW -- It's a yes. There were some reservations about it. So I'll be sending a potted evening primrose to remind the writer's room of its worst failings.
BLASST - Those white sparks spurting upward from the electrical wire seem to have it. I can't think why.
The Big Cheese -- The Smallville Crows' mascot wears a red cape and has an 'S' on it's chest. We get it.
The Arglefuffle -- Wasn't awarded as I could actually understand every word that Victoria said (and no one came up with convincing stuff for Lana). But since it's her last appearance, I'd like to give Victoria a tasteful arrangement of Larkspur and Sweetpea. Her father is gifted with a manly bouquet of Cyclamen and Foxglove in honor of his one time on Smallville.
In honor of her memorable run as Lex's love interest, the seasonal award known as the RECOYL will also now be known as the Miss Hard Wick.
